Manny Pacquiao running again

In boxing, my Guardian bro, Manny Pacquiao has moved in different weight classes to chase his dream for glory. He now has four belts, the most by any Asian, and he is also considered as the best boxer around pound-for-pound.

He was, unfortunately, KOed in his first political match in General Santos City last year. But now, he plans to make a political comeback and adopt his boxing strategy of moving. This time, moving from one place to another.

To neighboring Sarangani for his next electoral foray in 2010.

He kicked off his pre-campaign with a free concert in Malungon town. He has also accepted the post as chair of the town’s Tourism Council.

2010 Dagdag-Bawas

The rigging of the 2010 elections may have commenced with the appointment of two new members of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Without offense to the two new commissioners, Senate minority leader Nene Pimentel revealed that the two new appointees were not among those in the short list prepared by the Malacanang search committee which was also reviewed by civil society groups.

Their names were inserted. Therefore, a clear case of dagdag (for them) and bawas (for the others)! This unfair practice is definite to go all the way to 2010.

Denial queen

2010 is almost in everyone’s lips these days but the Palace occupant is as usual the denial queen.

She warns that early talk of elections can cause instability. Hohum.

On the contrary, not talking about a peaceful transition in 2010 is what I would call a serious threat to democracy.

After the assumption of Senator Mar Roxas of the leadership in the Liberal Party last Monday and the centennial bash of the Nacionalista Party last night led by Senate President Manny Villar, now comes the Nationalist People’s Coalition’s annual Christmas party on December 18.

Boss Danding Cojuangco is expected to be more generous this Yuletide with his victory over the ownership of 20 percent of San Miguel Corp.

What about the administration Lakas and Kampi parties? Well, they are busy backstabbing each other. If not, they are wasting people’s money with a junket to Spain and England next week in spite of the pressing matters at home. No less than 40 administration congress members are joining GMA to Europe. Hohum!

I say oras na (it’s high time) to discuss 2010!
